When you are the son of a god it SUCKS! Take Percy Jackson for example. Like all half-god, half-human demi-gods he was born with A.D.D. which aids in battle instinct and Dyslexia caused by hereditary knowledge of the ancient Greek language. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. Because of his strong demi-aura he's constantly being tracked down and attacked by evil math teachers from hell, principals with deadly scorpion tails, vampire cheerleaders, and giant canadian dodgeball players. There is an up side however. Like getting to meet all the weird and excentric gods of the Greek pantheon, getting sent on numerous life-threatening adevertures by a tie-dyed mummy, becoming best friends with a guy sporting goat legs and gaining a younger brother with one eye. Since Percy is the son of Poseidon he also gets some cool bonus powers as well including keeping dry underwater, breathing underwater, becoming the horse-whisperer, and controlling water with his mind. Yeah, for the boy who's favorite color is blue and who's best weapon is disguised as a pen, life wouldn't be so bad if not for the prophecy. The prophecy that states when he turns 16 he'll make the decision that could either save the world or let it be destroyed at the hands of Chronos, the Titan god of Time (the guy with the original reaper scythe). So indulge in a world where Olympus is at the top floor of the Empire State Building, Hades is under the heart of L.A., Appolo's sacred red cattle are on a ranch in Texas, the Sea of Monster once traveled by Oddyseus is now at the center of the Bermuda Triangle, and a vast Labyrinth shifts and grows like an irritable second skin just below the surface of the entire United States of America. Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan.

2/5/08You don't know me. Think about it for a minute. A good long minute. And then go "huh?" But that's just the charming point. In David Klass's definitely out-of-the-ordinary book about someone who is ordinary-so ordinary it's scary!. In fact, he's done such a good job at acting ordinary that you would never know who he really was-what his life is really like. So take a trip to a school that is not a school where a frog can masquerade as a tuba, where you will be constantly educated on the Lashasa Palula tribes, where peoples names are who they are not what they are called-and most certainly not what they appear. Ride home to a man who isn't a father, a mother who remains oblivious, stolen big screen televisions, and a cowardly courageous mut. Run naked from angry dad's protecting flirtatious daughters, weave through the delicate patterns connecting unreal reality and realistic fantasy, and discover just how much You Don't Know Me.
You Don't Know Me by David Klass
1/22/08This Week I'm going to introduce you into you to the incredible series known as Dragonback. There are currently 5 Dragonback advetures with a sixth nearing release. Timothy Zahn is an expert in Scifi adventures and in this series, the excitement and mystery never end. The dragon in the book is not a dragon of legend but an alien from a distant galaxy. This Alien is a K'da and can only live without a host for a maximum of 6 hours before shriveling up and going poof. And when 14 year old Jack finds Draycos as the last survivor of an ambushed spaceship Draycos only choice is to jump onto Jack's skin. Yes I said JUMP onto his skin. When merging with a host, a K'da becomes a flat 2D lifeform stuck to the skin so tightly it's like having a moving, living tatoo. Now Jack and Draycos must discover who ordered the attack on Draycos's advance team ship and stop them before they destroy an entire K'da colony (along with their Shontine species hosts) coming to our Galaxy to make a new home-after their old one was destroyed by their ultimate enemy the Vallaguah. This journey will take these two allies on an adventure from planet to planet and Jack will have to assume some new identities. A mercenary in training, a slave at a Brummgan plantation, a heardsman deep into another planet's rainforrest, and a Judge-Paladin for a needy tribe of Golvins. But as Jack tries his hardest to be the Hero companion to the honorable Poet Warrior Draycos, the legacy of his secretly-deceased uncle, the legendary master thief Virgil Morgan, keeps tripping him 3 steps back. And now his old friends at the slave camp are expecting him to bring them to freedom. So Jack Morgan, with time running thin for the arrival of the colony ship and the enemy ready to ambush, as well as the expectations of the hope-starved slaves, with the identity of your parents reveal (deceased), What Will Be Your Next Move?

Just posting that I'll feature a new book/series each week. Look for a new featured series each week.
2/06/07For this week's book watch book (rude snort of sarcasm in background) I have chosen an up-and-coming series and the Author attached that is now becoming one of my absolute favorites! For those who like breathtaking classic magic adventure involving mazes that lead you right back to the beginning, evil witches, nuclear plants, ancient Peruvian cities and monstrous demons shaped like evil hummingbirds and monkeys and spiders popping out of sand carvings in the middle of a desert. If you like mystery and suspense. If you like scenes involving an evil flock of condors trying to peck and crack open your skull and Petroleum Tanker trucks driven by sweet old ladies careening into private high schools. If you like British authors- then Anthony Horowitz's The Power of Five series is for you!
The Power of Five By Anthony HorowitzBook titles include:

Here's the author's main site:
http://www.anthonyhorowitz.com/2/14/07Sorry I'm late at writing this. I meant to on yesterday but didn't get the time. Anyway, here, you have 3 kids from different (yet similar?) worlds who have been whisked away to another dimension and another planet in a dimensional layering system you might associate with the kind of explanation found in the third series of Digimon on the layers of the digital world. Each of the 3 have vague hints of magic--vague because they are in the dimension farthest from the central core of the dimensions. As they progress and are pulled nearer towards the center, their power magnifies. Try going from inducing luck and chance to being able to hurl fireballs. Or, from sensing an opponents next move to having visions of the future. Seeing the unseen patterns in a mystery is no useless power either. A street kid from New York earth, a princess disguising herself as a male warrior in the middle ages on another planet, and a Cyber Spacer who ventures outside his planets life in virtual reality (with blue skin!) come together in the epically adventurous series called The Diadem (worlds within worlds) for a perfect blend of elements in fantasy writing by author John Peel.
